BANGKOK, Thailand (12 November 2019) – Nissan in Thailand has donated a first generation Nissan LEAF electric vehicle to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) to support the University’s valuable research in sustainable mobility and letting students gain insights into the workings of a modern-day electric vehicle, as part of the university curriculum.

The donation forms part of Nissan’s ongoing commitment to helping improve society by enhancing the education opportunities for young people, while also helping training of students as well as other research goals.

“The Nissan LEAF was first introduced to the world in 2010 as the first mass-market full-battery Electric Vehicle (EV) and reinforced Nissan’s commitment to minimizing the impact of mobility on the environment,” Peter Galli, vice president of Nissan in Thailand, said at the handover ceremony. “Today, almost a decade later, we are so proud to continue that commitment to give back to society and invest in the future of young students – allowing them to gain a better first-hand understanding of EV engineering and technology.”

This donation to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi is just another example of how Nissan is bringing its EV global leadership to Thailand, and follows the availability of the all-new Nissan LEAF in the Thai market earlier this year.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Nissan in Thailand for the donation of the Nissan LEAF.  The access to a real-world electric vehicle from Nissan will definitely help bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical real-world environment for our students, as well as support the university’s research in the automotive, and electric vehicle technology,” Associate Professor Dr. Suvit Saetia, the president of King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, said.

The Nissan LEAF is the world’s best-selling EV with more than 430,000 units sold globally, and remains the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, Nissan’s strategy for moving more people to a better world.
