BANGKOK, Thailand (September 30, 2019) – Today, 92% of Asia-Pacific’s population – about 4 billion people – are exposed to threatening levels of air pollution that pose a significant risk to their health on a daily basis.[1] With mounting environmental and health concerns, Nissan recently shared its view on how the company is helping minimize the overarching issue of air pollution that touch billions of lives in the region.

Peter Galli, vice president of communications for Nissan in Thailand spoke at a keynote and panel discussion ‘Clearing the Air: The Role of Business in Driving Down Air Pollution’, which highlighted a crucial role of the private sector in minimizing the problem.

The session formed part of CSR Asia Summit 2019, held under the theme ‘Sustainability: From Rhetoric to Results,’ centered around strategy for results, emerging issues and impact around sustainable development in Asia.

“At Nissan, we believe we have an instrumental role to play in helping shape the environmental balance. We proactively set strict goals and targets for our design and production, with a goal of producing emissions as clean as the atmosphere within our electric vehicle like the Nissan LEAF,” said Galli.

Furthermore, Nissan is fully supporting the Thai government’s request to expedite the timeline to upgrade vehicle emission standards to Euro 5. And is committed to ensuring that Nissan vehicles sold in Thailand will comply with Euro 5 emission levels by 2021.

“This is another way we are supporting the Thai government in taking action to help improve local air quality and reduce PM2.5 pollution, including through modern technologies and electric vehicles like the Nissan LEAF or hybrid vehicles like the X-Trail HEV, in addition to our plans to introduce eight new pure electric vehicle models, with the goals to sell one million EVs annually by 2022,” Galli concluded.
