BANGKOK, Thailand (6 October 2020) – To support the electrification roadmap for Thailand, Nissan has donated five units of first generation Nissan LEAF to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand, Thailand Automotive Institute, Thammasat University and Kasetsart University. The units help drive Thai education and automotive institutions’ learning, and valuable research and development in electric mobility.

The Nissan LEAFs provides students, academic personnel, and automotive professionals with a better first-hand understanding of electric automotive engineering and technology, thereby supporting research in sustainable mobility.

As the leader in the electrification of mobility, Nissan is committed to enhance the research and educational opportunities that will pave the way for a more sustainable and electric future of Thailand.

The Nissan LEAF donation also underlines Nissan’s ongoing drive to empower Thai society by enhancing the education opportunities for the youth, who will play crucial roles in shaping the future of the nation. Having access to electric vehicles helps bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical real-world environment for Thai students. The donation follows last year’s Nissan LEAF donation to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi.

“The Nissan LEAF is a central component of Nissan’s strategy to help build a sustainable electrification ecosystem in Thailand, and we are delighted that the electric vehicle can be further utilized for educational and research purposes,” Ramesh Narasimhan, president of Nissan in Thailand, said at the handover ceremony. “The access to a real-world EV such as Nissan LEAF will help drive forward the valuable researches and produce more experts in the automotive and particularly the electric vehicle technology.”

The donation is another example of how Nissan is bringing its EV global leadership to Thailand, and follows the availability of many electrification technologies introduced the Thai market, including the all-new Nissan LEAF and the all-new Nissan KICKS e-POWER.

Since its first launch in 2010, the Nissan LEAF, the world’s first mass-market EV, has sold more than 500,000 units sold globally.
