Nissan pledges societal empowerment
with Youth Leadership Development program expansion
The second phase of the program scales-up to help 1,600 students in three provinces realize their full potential with leadership, entrepreneurship, and environmental training
BANGKOK, Thailand (September 3, 2020) – Nissan in Thailand, in partnership with CARE International Japan and the Raks Thai Foundation, have announced the second phase of the Youth Leadership Development (YLD) program to reach 1600 students. Aimed at enhancing the skills of Thai youth in Samut Prakarn, Rayong and Ayutthaya provinces, the program sponsors trainings to create positive changes at individual, family and community levels.
Following the success of the first-phase partnership that trained more than 1,400 students, Nissan is continuing its partnership with CARE International Japan and Raks Thai Foundation in the second phase collaboration from April 2020 – March 2023. In this time the YLD program has set a mission to train 1,600 Thai students from 16 opportunity expansion schools in Samut Prakan, Rayong and Ayutthaya provinces, with the aim to further drive the leadership and occupational skills training to help them develop micro-businesses, while increase a focus on environment, and sustainability to help them become eco-responsible members of society, and for a greener and sustainable future.
With leadership skills training at its core, the program also integrates STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, and entrepreneurship skills into its curriculum. In the second phase, : the company will introduce Nissan Waku-Waku Eco School educational program about the environment, to deepen their understanding of global environmental issues and how they can help take part in ecological improvements through fun, interactive experiences.
“Our goal at Nissan is to help equip Thai youth with leadership skills necessary to optimize their potential, and prepare them to enter the workforce of the future. We are delighted to be able to bring this Youth Leadership Development program to many more schools, including those located nearby our manufacturing operations in Samut Prakan province,” said Surachai Nilkumwong, vice president of human resources and administration for Nissan in Thailand.
“The phase one of the program has inspired more than 60 amazing micro-business projects and we are excited to continue our mission to inspire the community, utilizing our greatest assets, including our dedicated employees. In addition, Nissan is helping to educate the next generation about zero emission mobility and its benefits for Thailand and society. In line with Nissan’s global vision, the YLD program reaffirms our commitment to enriching people’s lives as we are continuing our support for communities and conducting activities for a cleaner, safer and more inclusive society” added Nilkumwong.
Promboon Panitchpakdi, the executive director of the Raks Thai Foundation, said the organization and Nissan in Thailand both share the same vision of building a better society and enhancing youth development. “Our program has been instrumental in encouraging students to think critically and improve their leadership, occupational and social skills including team work and diversity.”
