Nissan joins United Nation's World Environment Day

BANGKOK, Thailand (June 20, 2019) – With rising concerns over air pollution in urbanized cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Nissan recently presented how zero-emission mobility can help address the issue going forward.

 

Sureetip La-Ongthong Chomthongdee, Nissan’s vice president for marketing in Thailand, joined representatives from the UN ESCAP, ILO, Chiang Mai Smog Solution, UN Human Rights, Embassy of Korea, UNICEF at the United Nations, Bangkok for a panel discussion to mark World Environment Day 2019. In her remarks Chomthongdee emphasized the mounting importance of zero-emission electric vehicles, along with collaborative efforts from the public and private sectors, as a means to help combat air quality issues.

 

The event, held under the theme ‘Beat Air Pollution,’ was jointly organized by UN agencies in Bangkok to encourage action that can be implemented by individuals, businesses and governments.

 

“At Nissan, our mission is to transform the way we live and drive. It is increasingly important that we take progressive steps in order to successfully tackle air pollution, and part of that solution could take the form of emission-free vehicles like the Nissan LEAF. We firmly believe that the private sector plays an important role in minimizing the problem. We need to collectively raise awareness of the issue and how each individual can play their part in

 

The discussion showed the role of cars in society was changing, with consumers expecting their vehicle to be in tune with their lifestyles.

 

“At Nissan, we believe that electric vehicles can be an integral part of helping create more livable cities of the future, by providing excellent, convenient transportation, yet helping to preserve our environments in parallel,” she concluded.
