BANGKOK, Thailand (December 14, 2020) – Nissan's proprietary e-POWER technology featured exclusively in the all-new Nissan Kicks has won Japan's 2021 'Technology of the Year' award. Given by the Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan (RJC), the accolade honors the advanced e-POWER electrified powertrain, giving owners a fully-electric motor drive, with no charging required.

The Nissan Kicks e-POWER, launched first in Thailand globally by the Japanese automaker, and manufactured in Thailand for Japan, Singapore and Indonesia, was also named one of the '6 Best Cars of the Year' by RJC, and the Thailand Automotive Journalist association (TAJA), from all new model launches. Nissan Kicks e-POWER also won the TAJA Top Automotive Technology Award 2020.

"Nissan Kicks e-POWER is a game changer. Winning the RJC' Technology of the Year' award in Japan is a concrete proof point of how this invention gives the proven acceleration, torque better than 2.0 liter engine, while the silence and lower long-term maintenance costs of an electric vehicle. But offers drivers the flexibility to not need to plug-in," says Ramesh Narasimhan, President of Nissan Thailand. "Also having the Nissan Kicks e-POWER in the top six new cars of this year, is testament how good this vehicle is and why it's so popular in Japan. Finally, that this model is manufactured in Thailand and is winning awards in Japan shows our world-class quality."

For the awards, the Kicks' advanced e-POWER system was chosen for its powerful, responsive ride as well as the high level of quietness, achieved by reducing the frequency of engine operation at low speeds. The Kicks was named a top model overall due to its acceleration, design and exhilarating performance. And as an extra testament to e-POWER technology, Nissan has extended its lithium-ion battery warranty to 10 years, with unlimited mileage.

Nissan's e-POWER technology offers a fully electric motor drive. The wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor, while a gasoline engine charges the car's high-output battery, running at optimal speeds to ensure fuel efficiency.

Nissan's all-new KICKS e-POWER has received the highest safety evaluation level, confirmed through the recent five-star ASEAN NCAP rating. The accolade has been awarded by independent testing body New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) and reinforces Nissan's commitment to safety.
