BANGKOK, Thailand (June 28, 2019) – Nissan shared its vision that the future of mobility in Thailand, and Asia and Oceania region, will be more electric, more autonomous and more connected, during iEVTech 2019, the 4th International Electric Vehicle Exhibition and Conference.  The company also depicted its roadmap for playing a key role in creating smart cities for a more sustainable future across Asia.

Two Nissan executives - Vincent Wijnen, senior vice president for Nissan Asia and Oceania, and Peter Galli, vice president of communications for Nissan in Thailand – gave keynote speeches on the beneficial role Electrification can play in the region’s sustainable development, and also educating around the largest misconceptions and consumer questions related to EV usage.

“The rate of urbanization in Asia Pacific is set to increase, making pollution an important issue that we must address,” Wijnen said in his speech entitled, ‘Changing mobility needs in ASEAN’s future cities.’ “Nissan firmly believes that zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs) like the all-new Nissan LEAF have the strong potential to positively improve environmental concerns for societies in Thailand and the region. And Nissan is well-positioned to take a leading role in driving the most beneficial future of mobility for people in this region.”

The event, held under the theme ‘Connecting ASEAN E-Mobility,’ was organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT) to serve as an international platform that helps contribute to the development of electrified transport technology.

“Electric Vehicles, like the Nissan LEAF, are an important component of Nissan’s strategy to be a leader to help build a sustainable electrification ecosystem in Thailand and to change the way people live and drive,” Wijnen said.

Nissan in Thailand has already announced several strategic partnerships to support this, such as landmark agreements with Thailand’s Metropolitan Electricity Authority and Provincial Electricity Authority to ensure that home charging options and correct electrical infrastructure is in place for Nissan LEAF customers. It has also appointed Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL as the primary provider of electric vehicle charging systems. These deals help support Thailand’s electrification goal of 1.2 million units on the road by 2036[1].

In his talk, Galli shared how Nissan is actively educating Thai consumers about electric vehicles, by helping tackle some of the most common questions surrounding EVs and the myths and misconceptions around them through digital touchpoints.

“Our mission is to help support cities like Bangkok – which is focusing on building an infrastructure to create a quality environment that could ease its transport issues – to become smart cities. With more than one-third of Southeast Asian consumers considering EVs for their next vehicle purchase, we are playing an active and supportive role in providing more information about these vehicles and how they benefit both consumers and society at large,” said Galli.
