First country in Asia and Oceania to start production of the new urban sedan, delivering strong fuel economy and low CO2 emissions
BANGKOK, Thailand (December 25, 2019) – Nissan in Thailand celebrates Thailand being the first country to begin production of the 1.0L turbo engine all-new Nissan Almera. And in parallel, the very first customer delivery in Thailand of the vehicle to occur on Christmas day.
“The all-new Nissan Almera being produced in Thailand for our valued Thai customers, reinforces this country’s importance as a regional manufacturing hub for Nissan in Asia, and globally. Nissan has significantly expanded its production footprint in Thailand, and we will continue to invest in Thailand’s automotive ecosystem to create jobs and help drive economic growth,” said Yutaka Sanada, senior vice president for Nissan in Asia and Oceania.
Adhering to Nissan’s global quality standards to ensure durability and reliability, the all-new Nissan Almera is made in Thailand’s Samut Prakan manufacturing operations. To support the new production, Nissan has additionally invested heavily in advanced automation technology for quality control processes and next generation paint materials to reduce plastic waste.
“Nissan in Thailand’s more than 5,000 employees are now proudly producing the all-new Nissan Almera. Our workforce, who are well trained to meet world-class manufacturing standards using the latest technologies, along with the support of our Thai dealers and suppliers, will ensure the Nissan Almera’s success in the competitive city car segment,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, president of Nissan in Thailand.
Nissan has been producing high quality vehicles in Thailand since 1999, and has exported more than 1.1 million vehicles to 116 countries across the world. The production of this popular city car uses the same manufacturing techniques and quality assurance processes as vehicles exported to Japan.
The all-new Almera’s production stands out due to its Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies integrated into the vehicle to provide front, side and rear safety monitoring and intervention. This technology is a key component of Nissan’s global vision of how vehicles are driven, powered and integrated into society.
It also offers one of the roomiest interiors on the Thai market, and the new, lighter 1.0-liter turbo engine offers enhanced power and better fuel economy. Combined with a sleek exterior and comfortable, spacious interior – the all-new Almera is tailor-made to appeal to Thai customers, particularly young families and millennials, as the primary consumers of city cars.
