BANGKOK, Thailand (09 October 2018) - Nissan recently shared its vision for the future of mobility in Thailand at an event attended by more than 50 members of the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT).
The presentation by Nissan Motor Thailand President, Antoine Barthes, highlighted how the technological innovations under Nissan Intelligent Mobility continue to help drive the Thai automotive industry.
“The role of cars in Thai society is clearly changing. They are now far more than just a vehicle that takes you from point A to point B. A vehicle is now an expression and extension of an individual’s everyday lifestyle. Technology is what motivates modern customers as they want to stay connected while driving,” Barthes said. “Thailand is a technology and social media driven society. Research has shown that Thais spend 9.38 hours online every day, and an average of three hours and 10 minutes per day on social media,” he said,
Nissan’s history dates back over 85 years, with its first “Datsun” car. That was followed by many other models known in markets worldwide. Just as it did in the past, Nissan today continues to adapt and advance to ensure it meets the needs of increasingly selective and demanding customers with regards to what they expect from their vehicle, Barthes said.
Technologies like ProPILOT Assist, a key hands-on driver-assist system that helps them stay centered in their lane, navigate stop-and-go traffic, maintain a set vehicle speed and a set distance to the vehicle ahead, were already well tested and accepted, he said.
Technologies like these showcase Nissan’s vision for how cars will be powered, driven and integrated into society in the future, and sets the foundation for the autonomous vehicles of the future.
Barthes also shared future-looking ground breaking Nissan technologies like the company's Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) technology, where the driver wears a device that measures brain wave activity that will let the technology adapt to make driving more enjoyable.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility has three core pillars: Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving and Intelligent Integration, and these technologies will be embedded across all its vehicles. These help build new bonds between the vehicles, drivers and most importantly society, Barthes said.
Many of these features will be found in Nissan models right here in Thailand, including the all-new Nissan Terra – a frame-based luxury SUV - and the flagship electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF, which will be available in Thailand later this fiscal year, he added.
“At Nissan, we believe in a future in which driving is a safe, enjoyable and exciting experience, with technology taking center stage. And we believe that future is electric, connected and autonomous,” Barthes concluded.
