Event highlights the benefits of Nissan Intelligent Mobility for female drivers

BANGKOK, Thailand (August 10, 2018) – Nissan this week hosted a road safety clinic for women in Thailand, along with a guided tour of its research and development center, to raise road safety awareness and meet the specific needs of women drivers.

“This is just one of the ways Nissan wants to show appreciation for female drivers and to help them celebrate Mother’s Day 2018,” said Peter Galli, vice president of communications for Nissan Thailand. “We want to show how our innovative technologies help move people to a better world through a safer, more confident and more exciting drive experience.  Providing road safety training is one way we can do this,” he said.

The global incomes of women are predicted to reach a staggering US$18 trillion by 2018, according to global professional services firm EY. Women are driving 70-80% of all consumer purchasing through a combination of their buying power and influence.  Influence means that even when a woman isn’t paying for something herself, she is often the influence or veto vote behind someone else’s purchase.

“Our female consumers are deeply important to us and we want to ensure that we are meeting their needs when owning or driving a car, This is a also an opportunity to highlight Nissan Intelligent Mobility features like intelligent around view monitor, which gives a 360 degree view around the vehicle, and other safety features that they may be unaware of,” Galli said.

Other features, such as Intelligent Trace Control, give drivers extra control, making the car agile, responsive and more pleasurable to drive. Nissan developed Intelligent Trace Control as a driver assistance system designed to help with acute or sharp curves, ensuring that the vehicle traverses its path perfectly.

Intelligent Ride Control helps create a smooth ride over large and small bumps on the road. As the vehicle passes over certain bumps, passengers may feel a fore-aft pitching motion. Intelligent Ride Control moderates this by controlling the engine and brakes, delivering a smoother driving experience.

“At Nissan, the customer is at the heart of everything we do and the company has been investing in Research and Development capabilities for the Asia & Oceania region,” said Satoru Mizoguchi, senior vice president of research and development for Nissan Asia & Oceania. “The investment of more than 1 billion Thai baht to build the regional testing facility in 2015 affirms Thailand as a strategic market for Nissan in the region. More than 250 employees work in the center, with local engineers trained in Japan to attain the advanced professional skillsets necessary to operate the testing facilities. This includes an anechoic chamber, acoustic chamber and environmental vibration simulator chamber,” he said.

The center in Samut Prakan near Bangkok is the main R&D hub for the region. It is designed to better address customer needs to align more quickly to market requirements. “The center’s scope includes quality assurance for product launches to the upstream product development phase of evaluation tests for trial prototypes. The facility primarily serves Southeast Asian markets, but provides testing for more than 90 countries around the world,” Mizoguchi said.

“A driving test course in Nissan’s R&D center in Thailand is one of only three centers outside Japan. The test course has five unique road surfaces designed to reflect road conditions in South East Asian counties, including bumpy roads, high-speed breaker roads, undulating roads, curved roads and those with bridges,” he said. “The center also offer a unique combination of vibrator, chamber and solar system testing facilities - the only testing facility among Nissan’s R&D centers which can combine these three tests at the same time.”
