BANGKOK, Thailand (5 June 2019) – Thailand’s young face of electric mobility has been revealed with the country’s first-ever owner of the all-new Nissan LEAF 100% electric vehicle (EV) - Jongjate Buranamaitree, a young entrepreneur from Khon Kaen. The auto-maker also announced that more than 20% of Nissan LEAF deliveries to date in Thailand have been upcountry, a stimulating indication that Thai consumers across the nation believe in the range capabilities and benefits of EVs, and the ability to charge at home.

“Being Thailand’s first Nissan LEAF owner is an eye-opening and electrifying experience for us. After a few weeks of driving around, we are definitely impressed by LEAF’s driving range which can take us around the city without having any concerns at all about the battery,” said Jongjate Buranamaitree, a Manager at Khonkaen Teera Trading Part., Ltd.

The engineering graduate from Kasetsart University recently took delivery of the vehicle from Nissan KKT Khon Kaen, which he bought for his father who had driven the first generation Nissan LEAF while travelling abroad and loved it. At the handover ceremony, Buranamaitree said that, as a previous hybrid vehicle owner, the switch to the fully electric vehicle has been a rewarding experience.

“For our day-to-day drive in the city of Khon Kaen, overnight home charging is the perfect solution. If we want to travel further, we can always visit public charging stations or Nissan showrooms for a quick charge.”

The all-new LEAF has a driving range of more than 311 km and is over 60% more efficient than the previous model per charge – allowing drivers to enjoy safer, longer and more comfortable journeys.

“We are delighted that the customer rollout of the all-new Nissan LEAF has started to our valued Thai customers, who join the 400,000 customers across the globe who proudly drive the Nissan LEAF,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, the president of Nissan in Thailand. “With a fifth of Nissan LEAF deliveries so far coming from outside of Thailand’s large cities, it is a positive indication that our Thai customers from all areas can see the benefits of electric mobility, underscoring Nissan’s vision to help drive electrification across all of Thailand.”

The Nissan LEAF is a central component of Nissan’s strategy to help build a sustainable electrification ecosystem in Thailand. The company has already announced several strategic partnerships to support this: In May, Nissan appointed Delta Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited as a partner and the official EV wall box and quick charging provider for the all-new Nissan LEAF. Last year, Nissan signed a MoU with Thailand’s Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) that will evaluate the electric supply to customer homes or offices to ensure they can safely install a charger.

“Nissan in Thailand is committed to ensuring our valued Thai customers have choices, so that they can charge at home, work or on the go,” said Narasimhan. “The deals with MEA and Delta provide this, along with the 32 certified Nissan EV dealers across Thailand. Each of them has a Delta charging station that comes with both a standard wall box charger and a quick charger.”

The all-new Nissan LEAF is available in a two-tone design - pearl white and super black – at a starting price of 1,990,000 Thai baht. Customers receive a vehicle warranty for 3 years or 100,000 kilometers, an EV system warranty for 5 years or 100,000 km, and a battery deterioration warranty for 8 years or 160,000 km.
